We are getting ready to see the second generation of this small crossover, which should arrive later in the year, as the 2020 Audi Q3. At this point, most of the characteristics of the new model are known pretty well. The new model has been presented already last summer, but the North American version will have to wait for some time more. This redesign brings a fine portion of changes. The new model will feature completely new mechanics, as well as a new styling, which definitely doesn’t come with radical styling changes. Of course, the interior is new as well, and also comes with plenty of new tech features.
Finally, there is a new engine lineup, predominately with four-cylinder engines, but a hi-performance RS Q3 is expected as well. Eventually, a hybrid version will arrive as well. Expect to see the new model later in the year.
2020 Audi Q3 Redesign
This redesign comes about eight years after the launch of the original version. The first generation of this subcompact crossover has been around since 2011 and it was quite popular, mainly because of its well-built cabin and surprisingly good comfort, considering the size. We have no doubt that the new model will continue in the same way, but also fix some of the issues that characterized the original model. This primarily refers to the engine lineup, which lacked some more powerful option. Also, we hope that Audi will be more generous in terms of standard equipment.
2020 Audi Q3 Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, the most important novelty is that the 2020 Audi Q3 will ride on a new platform. Of course, it is a well-known MQB architecture, which is used for pretty much every small vehicle from the VW Group. It will bring improvements in various aspects, especially in terms of ride quality and overall efficiency. In terms of the size, the 2020 Audi Q3 will be fairly bigger compared to the original model. Count on three more inches in the wheelbase, which will definitely bring improvements in terms of legroom and overall comfort.
When it comes to the styling, there are no surprises from the 2020 Audi Q3. We can see a typical Audi approach, which in practice means lack of any radical changes. The company continued the evolution of this small crossover and fitted it to the brand’s newest design language. In practice, this means a slightly less conservative approach, with sharper front fascia, headlights, and bumpers. The new model closely resembles the bigger Q5. Practically, it features the same look, just in a smaller package.
2020 Audi Q3 Interior
The changes on the inside are probably bigger compared to ones on the outside. The outgoing model features a quality cabin, but also a lot of styling elements that feel outdated. In that aspect, the new 2020 Audi Q3 will be significantly more attractive. It will feature a stylish dashboard, characterized by lots of horizontal lines and an integrated touchscreen, just like we recently saw in the new Q5. Of course, there is a new steering wheel, as well as a more attractive instrument cluster. A so-called Virtual Cockpit should be offered as well.
As we already mentioned, the new model will feature three more inches in the wheelbase. If we consider that the current model already features quite a decent legroom in both rows, this would mean a very high level of comfort. Same goes for the cargo area, which currently offers pretty much class-average numbers.
The current model isn’t very generous when it comes to standard equipment. However, we hope that the company will fix this issue with the new model and that the 2020 Audi Q3 will be pretty generous, especially when it comes to tech goodies and advanced safety systems.
2020 Audi Q3 Engine
We expect a lot of novelties in this aspect. The current model comes with a 200-hp four-cylinder and it definitely feels a little bit underpowered. Therefore, we count on a significant power boost with this redesign. Also, it has been confirmed that a hi-performance RS Q3 is coming to North America. This version will feature a familiar 2.5-liter inline-five engine and latest reports suggest a max output of around 400 horsepower. Besides plenty of power, this version will come with several other upgrades, such as new brakes and suspension, plenty of distinctive styling details etc.
Finally, we count on a hybrid version in the future as well. At this point, we don’t know any details, but most reports it will be a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
2020 Audi Q3 Release Date and Price
The 2020 Audi Q3 is expected to hit the market later in the year. We don’t expect significant changes in terms of the base price, which currently goes around 33.000 dollars. Key rivals will be Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Infiniti QX30, and others.
